FAQ

Questions, answered properly

Including the awkward ones about legality and scope, which is where most sites in this space get vague.

The basics

Buying from us

Is buying a radio code legal?

Yes, for a unit you own. A factory radio code is an anti-theft measure for the head unit, not for the vehicle, and recovering it is exactly what dealers do — usually for more money and with an appointment. You confirm at checkout that the unit is yours, and we decline anything that looks like it is not. What we will never supply is listed in our acceptable use policy.

What happens if the code does not work?

Reply to your delivery email with the serial and what the unit displays. We re-run the calculation and check you have the right family for your label. If it still will not open, you get a full refund — see the refund policy. The single most common cause is a misread character: a zero read as an O, or a five read as an S.

Do I have to take the radio out of the dashboard?

Sometimes. Ford M series, Toyota ERC and Eclipse ESN units can display their serial on screen with a button combination, so nothing needs to come out. Most others print the serial only on the chassis label. Each serial-finding guide says which applies to your unit and what tools you need.

How quickly will I get the result?

Immediately. The lookup runs the moment payment clears, the result appears on screen, and the same result is emailed as a permanent link you can come back to. There is no human in the loop and nothing to wait for.

Do you need my title, V5 or proof of ownership?

No. We ask you to attest that the unit is yours, and we keep the record of that attestation. Uploading a title document would mean us storing far more personal information about you than a four-digit code warrants.

Do you sell VIN history or plate-to-VIN lookups?

Not on this site. The Radio Code recovers factory radio unlock codes for a unit you own. VIN history reports live on pullvinreport.com. We do not decode registration plates here, and we never return keeper or owner details. What we refuse is listed in our acceptable use policy.

Do you unlock immobilisers, keys or phones?

No. We recover factory audio-unit unlock codes, and that is all. Immobiliser PINs, key programming, incode/outcode, IMEI unlocks and glove-box style bypass methods are all off the table, whoever is asking. For a key or immobiliser you need a franchised dealer or a licensed auto locksmith with proof of ownership.

Will you store my serial number?

We keep the record of the order so we can honour the guarantee and meet tax requirements, and that is all we use it for. We do not build profiles, we do not sell lookup histories, and we do not pass your details to marketers. Questions go to support@theradiocode.com.
Technical

Serials, lockouts and edge cases

My unit shows LOCKED or WAIT instead of CODE. What now?

That is a lockout timer from previous wrong attempts, not a fault. Leave the ignition on with the radio powered and let the timer run down — power-cycling usually restarts it. Once CODE reappears, enter our code once, carefully.

Two families look like they match my serial. Which do I pick?

Go by the maker name printed on the chassis label rather than the serial format. Fiat units in particular were built by Visteon, DAIICHI and Delphi with overlapping serial lengths, and the maker name is the only reliable tie-breaker. If the label is unclear, send us a photo before you pay.

The serial on my Toyota changed since I ordered. Is my code dead?

Yes, and that is normal — a Toyota ERC is regenerated whenever the unit fully loses power. Send us the new ERC and we will re-run it at no charge.

Can I use one code on two units?

No. A code is derived from one specific serial and will not open a different unit, even an identical model. Each unit needs its own lookup.

Do you support units not on your list?

Sometimes. Send a photo of the chassis label and we will tell you whether it is decodable before you pay anything. If we cannot do it, we will say so rather than sell you a guess.

Still not answered?

Ask before you pay. A photo of the chassis label and one sentence about what the unit is doing is usually all we need, and we would rather tell you it cannot be done than take your money.
